［26 April 2026］ Gunfire at White House Correspondents’ Dinner
Gunshots were fired outside the security checkpoint of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, prompting Secret Service agents to rush President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and several cabinet members to safety. A Secret Service officer was hit but escaped serious injury thanks to a bulletproof vest.
Chaos briefly erupted inside the venue as guests ducked under tables. Trump later said the injured officer was in good condition. He also posted footage on Truth Social showing a man running past security while appearing to fire shots, along with a photo of the suspect handcuffed on the hotel floor.
Police confirmed the arrest of a 31‑year‑old California man, who was found carrying a shotgun, a handgun and several knives. His motive remains unclear. Trump suggested he may have been the target, though authorities say there is no evidence at this stage. Investigators believe the attack may have been planned in advance.
