Hong Kong's premier Lunar New Year extravaganza, the Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade, kicks off tonight at 8pm on the first day of the festivities, blending the city's multicultural vibrancy with global well-wishes for visitors worldwide. Featuring 58 teams including 12 stunning themed floats, the parade starts from the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, winding through Canton Road, Haiphong Road, and Nathan Road to the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers, illuminated by colorful lights and lanterns along the route.
Pre-parade excitement builds from 6pm with lively street performances along the path, offering free vantage points for early birds seeking optimal views. The lead float and groups are expected to reach Canton Road around 8:30pm and Nathan Road by 9pm, with the finale arriving at the endpoint near 10:30pm, broadcast live on TVB Jade and RTHK TV 32 from 8pm to 9:45pm.
Highlights include Cathay Pacific's aircraft-themed float marking its 80th anniversary, Ocean Park's animal ambassadors, a Hong Kong Jockey Club equine spectacle tying into the Year of the Horse, and debuts like the Labubu art toy float from LINE FRIENDS, alongside international acts from France, Italy, and mainland China. Paid seats at the Cultural Centre (HK$450-600) sold out swiftly, but the route offers prime free spots—arrive early via MTR Tsim Sha Tsui or East Tsim Sha Tsui stations amid expected road closures.Post-parade, floats tour Kai Tak Sports Park, Ocean Park, and other venues until March 4, extending the festive spirit citywide.
